I Made Surya Subratha

Wave Rhythm

202 cm x 166 cm
Acrylic, texture on canvas fabric, 2022

Artwork location: Jakarta

This piece by I Made Surya Subratha feels like a slow-moving wave, layered, textured, and quietly powerful. The marks and faded colors suggest something worn by time, like memories or landscapes gently slipping away. It doesn’t tell a clear story, but you can feel something familiar in it, maybe the sea, maybe the wind, maybe something spiritual. Rooted in Balinese rhythm and nature, Wave Rhythm is a meditative work that invites you to pause and simply feel

Artist profile
I Made Surya Subratha (b. 1996, Bali) is a contemporary artist whose practice explores memory, material, and abstraction. Working with natural pigments, and sometimes repetitive mark-making, his works often evoke the quiet rhythms of nature and everyday ritual. Rather than depicting Balinese culture directly, Surya reflects it through texture, atmosphere, and process—inviting contemplation over narration. Based in Bali, he represents a younger generation of artists reinterpreting tradition through a subtle, introspective lens.
