This artwork examines Indonesia’s shifting culture, where female sexuality and public identities are moving toward regulated conservatism, contrasting with the relatively liberal attitudes of the past. Following Suharto’s fall in 1998, fundamentalist Islamist groups gained influence, advocating for anti-pornography laws that even target traditional cultural forms, such as those in predominantly Hindu Bali.
